Patricia “Pat” Serbus, age 81, of Danube, MN passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her home south of Danube. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. The Rev. Joseph Steinbeisser will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. and will continue on Thursday one hour prior to the Mass all at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.
Patricia Kathern Serbus was born on December 13, 1944, in Willmar, Minnesota to William and Theresa (Thoma) Hirman. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Raymond and later made her first communion at St. Clara Catholic Church in Clara City. She attended school in Clara City. She was united in marriage to Francis J. Serbus on June 9, 1962, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bechyn. They were blessed with six children. They resided in Roseland and later built their own farm south of Danube where they raised their children, animals, and lived a beautiful life for 56 years. She worked various jobs including Blackbearn in Olivia, the corn canning factory in Olivia and was a devoted farm wife all her life. She was a loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to anyone in need. Pat was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Preservation in Bechyn, and CCW member. Pat will be remembered for her love of gardening and flowers, sewing skills, canning her famous dill pickles that were loved by all. She will also be remembered for her many angel figures, love of birds and nature, and was always able to mend or fix anything.
Survivors include her daughters and son: Kathern (and Seth) Johns of Willmar, Linda (and Doug) Ablard of Milaca, Cheryl Hanson of Danube, and Robert (and Nanette) Serbus of Renville; her five grandchildren: Mike and Dan Ablard, Theresa Andrews, Andrew Hanson, and Nicholas Serbus; her two great-granddaughters: Sarina Ablard and Paige Andrews; and her great-grandson, Carter Andrews; her siblings: Beverly Spies of Sartell, and Colleen (and Gene) Allex of Danube; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; two sons, Leonard and Curtis; and brothers Tony Hirman and Milton Hirman, many other beloved family.
