Mildred “Milly” Hemingsen, age 93, of Renville, MN passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at RenVilla Healthcare Center in Renville. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Renville Community Center followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends until 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
Mildred Lavina Hemingsen was born on July 30, 1932, on the family farm north of Danube, Minnesota, to Oscar and Evelyn (Clark) Abrahamson. She attended country school in Winfield Township north of Danube and graduated from Danube High School in 1950. On October 7, 1950, she married Stanley Hemingsen at the United Methodist Church in Renville. Their first year of marriage was spent in Colorado Springs where Stan was stationed with the United States Army. In 1951, they made their home on the family farm, where they raised their family and worked side by side tending to the farm work and livestock. Milly canned produce from the garden and made numerous apple pies. She loved walking in the woods behind the farm with her favorite dog, Larry. Milly was involved in her community; volunteering her time at the RenVilla Nursing Home and serving as the treasurer for the UMW of the United Methodist Church in Renville and clerk for Flora Township for many years. Milly will be remembered for her love of family, her faithful service to her community, and for sharing her special k bars, sour cream raisin pies, and her special dessert with those she loved.
Milly is survived by her children: Les (Patti) Hemingsen, Terry (Sharon) Hemingsen, Cindy (Kent) Prodoehl, David Hemingsen, and Daniel (Kris) Hemingsen; her grandchildren: Pamela (Troy) Elfering, Anthony (Sunni) Hemingsen, Taryn (Ben) Sietsema, Jacey (Dan) Jansen, Ian Hemingsen, Rianna Hemingsen, Caitlin (John) Christenson, Cameron (Amanda) Prodoehl, Tyler (Amber) Hemingsen, Dylan Hemingsen, Alyssa Hemingsen, and Brooke Hemingsen; her great-grandchildren: Brody and Reilly Elfering, Avery (Colton) Husby, Henry and Greta Hemingsen, Evyn (Katya) Sietsema, Tegan, Keeley, and Brekin Jansen, Charlotte and Mackenzie Prodoehl, Bently and Nolan Hemingsen; her great-great-granddaughter, Adeline Husby.; her step-grandchildren: Ryan Fransen, Liza Luna, and Jake Freiborg; her step-great-grandchildren: Ellanor, Manuel, and Taytum; her sisters: Joyce Riege and Johanna Malvin; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris (Mary Ann) Hemingsen. Milly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; daughter-in-law Karen; brothers, Charles and Winton (Glorine); and brothers-in-law, Orville Riege and Jerome Malvin.
